Dr Kalam gives away DRDO Awards 2010

“Find the unique YOU” urged Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India while addressing a gathering of DRDO’s top leaders, DRDO awardees and members of “mahila kalyan manch”. He was speaking as the Chief Guest, during the DRDO awards ceremony held on 26th March 2011, in Bhagavantam Auditorium at Metcalfe House, Delhi. These DRDO awards are given each year on the occasion of DRDO Directors’ Conference. The “Young scientist awards” are given to DRDS scientists for dedicated outstanding work in their specialized areas. Similarly, the “Best Performance awards” are given to DRTC personnel and personnel from Administrative, stores and allied cadres, for extraordinary efforts and contribution in respective technical, administrative/stores and other related work.

V Bhanu Naidu, Scientist ‘C’, Microwave Tube Research & Development Centre (MTRDC), Bangaluru has made significant contribution towards the design and development of the 200W (CW) C-Ku band helix TWT suitable for EW and SAR.

Venkatesh Prabhu, Scientist ‘D’, Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), Bangaluru has made outstanding contributions
towards design & development of high power microwave transmitter and establishing the baseline critical technologies in the areas of
efficient power conversion and high voltage engineering.

Deepti Agrawal, Scientist ‘C’, Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Hyderabad has made significant contribution towards design and development of hardware and algorithms thereby resulting in successful realisation of indigenous “Real Time Digital Receiver technology for EW applications”.

Eldho Jacob, Scientist ‘C’, Naval Physical & Oceanographic laboratory (NPOL), Kochi has made invaluable contributions in development of Sonar Front-end for a new generation Hull Mounted Ship-Sonar HUMSA-NG. He was also instrumental in the development of the frontend of Low Frequency Dunking Sonar (LFDS) which operates underwater to depths as much as 200 m.

Pradipta Roy, Scientist ‘D’, ITR , Chandipur has taken initiative to develop FPGA Based Video Tracker. He has also developed indigenously built rack mountable & PCI based IRIG-B Time Code Reader and VLSI based Video Encoder System.

Abhishek S Kanaskar, Scientist ‘C’, Research & Development Establishment (Engineers) {R&DE (E)}, Pune has made commendable contribution in carrying out mathematical modelling, simulation and physical system dynamic analysis tasks towards indigenous development of Aircraft Arrester Gear System and Program AD Launcher Systems.

Mohd. Shahid, Scientist ‘D’, Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bangaluru has made outstanding contribution in design and development of state-of-the-art airborne Video Tracker and Video Annotation Systems for Manned and Unmanned aircrafts.

Indumathi SN, Scientist ‘D’, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad has developed import substitute for critical and restricted technologies like tungsten di sulphide based solid lubricant coatings for control components and spinelling technology for rocket motors of LRSAM, as well as eco friendly coating processes.

Girish Mishra, Scientist ‘C’, Scientific Analysis Group (SAG), Delhi has made significant contribution in cryptanalysis of regional language based ciphers. His work in the area of cryptanalysis of hill ciphers, language Identification and cryptosystem identification are very innovative.

Ajay Pal, Scientist ‘C’, Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), Mysore has made significant contributions in downstream processing and
characterization of proteinaceous and non-proteinaceous microbial compounds as well as preparation of lactose hydrolyzing enzyme for the
benefit of lactose intolerant populations, using novel methodologies.

Piyush Ranjan Jaiswal, Scientist ‘C’, Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), Dehradun has made significant contribution towards development of FPGA based All Digital Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Modem.

Vikram Saini, Scientist ‘C’, Vehicle Research & Development Establishment (VRDE), Ahmednagar, has successfully developed “Command Steering System for Transportation Cum Tilting (TCT) vehicle for AGNI-V”.

Md Zafir Alam, Scientist ‘C’, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad has made significant contribution towards the development and characterization of high temperature coatings for strategic applications pertaining to aero-engine and missile systems.

Abi K Krishnan, Scientist ‘D’, Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Hyderabad has designed, developed and implemented fault tolerant algorithm for strategic missile launch operations, which is a unique decision making algorithm for fault handling and decision making with capability for online system reconfiguration and fault isolation.

Rakesh Kumar Thakur, Scientist ‘C’, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh optimized the critical technologies to realize the Spark Gap Switch which has been subjected to number of flight trials successfully.

Tejasvi K, Scientist ‘C’, SF Complex (SFC), Jagdalpur has made significant contribution in identifying the factors affecting the propellant characteristics used in the AGNI systems and fine tuning the propellant formulations to get the desired performance.

M Prakash , Technical Officer ‘C’, Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE), Bangaluru for his contributions in mechanical design and development of Airborne Qualified Avionics computer chassis and in successful integration of MC (Mission Computer), DP (Display Processor), RC (Radar Computer) I & II, six antennae configuration RWR SP units on SU-30 MKI aircraft.

Dheerendra Pant , Senior Store Assistant, Defence Institute of Bio-Energy Research (DIBER), Haldwani for his excellent contribution in store management and in handling of store purchase for DIBER having seven field stations located at far flung areas.

A Srinivasa, Personal Assistant ‘C’, Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), Bangaluru for his outstanding contributions in maintenance of Director’s Secretariat by means of effective planning, computerization of communication data bank and handling multifarious
correspondences.

Ajit Kumar Agrawal , Assistant Director, Dte of Personnel, DRDO HQrs for effectively executing the duties of two sections of the Dte. He has made outstanding contribution in implementation of DRDO Award Scheme by creating a data bank of the awards and providing minutes
details before the Award Committee in a presentable format. He was also instrumental in completing various DPC proposals of admin & allied cadres of DRDO, well in advance and took initiative to prepare seniority roll of admin allied cadre.

Om Prakash Gautam , Technical Officer ‘B’, Defence Materials & Stores Res & Dev Establishment (DMSRDE) for his significant contribution in development of light weight NBC shielding pads for T-90 tanks.

Murali PN, Personal Assistant ‘C’, Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune for demonstrating exemplary qualities in discharging his duties as PA to the Director by means of providing active secretarial support to Director in his techno managerial work related to administrative and project matter.

Girija S , SA ‘B’, Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bangaluru for her significant contribution to speed up procurement
process by developing small software packages which flags out delays and for implementation of RFID software.

A Rama Rao , Private Secretary ‘A’, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad for showing exemplary efficiency in handling the matters related to management of the office of Director of Propulsion, DRDL, as also effectively coordinating Technology/Project Directorates of DRDL and other DRDO Labs.

A Padmashree , Senior Technical Assistant ‘C’, Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), Mysore for her unique scientific work carried in developing nutritious functional energy rich bars to cater to the requirement of Armed Forces and also suggesting suitable packing system for packing edible oils as well as use of anodized vessels as an alternative to the aluminum vessels for cooking of foods in Armed Forces kitchens.

Rajni Kumar , Technical Officer ‘C’, Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC), Delhi for her successful development and demonstration of indigenous test systems to evaluate Precision Guided Munitions possessed by Indian Air force such as Infra-red guided missiles and laser
guided bomb in strap-on-conditions with the fighter aircraft SU30MK-I & Mirage 2000.

Dinesh Kumar , Technical Officer ‘B’, Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (VRDE), Ahmednagar for his significant contribution in rectifying the defect in T-72 tank involving unprecedented breakage of the eccentric link of the firing system. He identified the chemical composition of the material and its hardness by the process of reverse engineering. He then manufactured it through the machining centre with a softer material (EN 45).

Sib Nath Paul , Technical Officer ‘A’, Proof & Experimental Establishment (PXE), Chandipur his significant contributions in design & development of pneumatic auto loading attachment for 130/155 mm Up-Gun, implementation of improved barrel cleaning technique, introduction of proto type method for primer firing of 130/155 mm Up-gun and development of cock & fire main spring for percussion lock mechanism of Up-Gun.

Shri GR Vakil , Private Secretary ‘A’, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune for providing exemplary secretarial support,
office management, other documentation works and towards coordination of various activities with DRDO HQ, Indian Armed Forces, various DRDO labs & PSUs.

GS Vinayaka Rao , Admin Assistant ‘C’, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad for handling administration and financial matters and
providing logistic support to the Programme ‘AD’ and Project PRITHVI.

Dinesh Kumar Rawat , Technical Officer ‘C’, Defence Laboratory (DL), Jodhpur for his excellent contribution in fabrication of 8 nos. of NBC Recce vehicles under LSP order, training module and NUCAS within PDC of project.

K Uma , Personal Assistant ‘C’, Targeted Training Centre (TTC), Bangaluru for her significant contributions as PA to Project Director AD Radars in LRDE, for assistance in in conducting various meetings, preparing project reports in MTRDC, maintenance of seniority rolls, nominal rolls, roster of DRTC cadre etc.
